Superman Named the World's Most Kissable Super Hero According to Match.com Survey

DC Comics’ JUSTICE LEAGUE #12 Unveils World’s Newest Power Couple – Superman and Wonder Woman – Sparking Fun Survey Results And Compatibility Analysis

BURBANK, Calif. (August 27, 2012) – Wonder Woman is one lucky lady. Match.com, the world’s largest dating website, today reveals that according to its users Superman is the most kissable Super Hero in the world.

This revelation comes just as the summer’s biggest love affair between Superman and Wonder Woman heats up in the latest issue of DC Comics JUSTICE LEAGUE #12. This news is part of a wealth of material mined from a partnership between Match.com and DC Entertainment that includes results from a survey of more than 1,000 single male and female users of Match.com and a compatibility analysis, which weighs the characters’ chances for a long-term love affair. Superman and Wonder Woman’s first kiss and budding relationship is revealed in JUSTICE LEAGUE #12, available in stores on August 29.

The start of their relationship, like any other, is sealed with a kiss – a kiss that Match.com’s survey showed most single ladies would leap for with 76.2% choosing Superman as the most kissable Super Hero in the universe. As for the top place singles would want to experience a Super Hero kiss? It’s no contest: flying in the air was the clear winner (Males 42.4%, Females 42.9%), while teleporting through time zones ranked last (Males 3.4%, Females 6.3 %).

According to Match.com’s Chief Scientific Advisor and renowned biological anthropologist, Dr. Helen Fisher, the importance of the kiss between Superman and Wonder Woman is as meaningful as it is powerful, “A Super Hero kiss is exciting, but it can be thrilling for people without super powers too. A great first kiss can be exhilarating due to the way the brain responds through the dopamine system, so Superman and Wonder Woman’s first kiss could very well push them over the threshold toward falling in love.”

To find out if Superman and Wonder Woman are more Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson than Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, Dr. Fisher measured their compatibility.  After reviewing the data and history of each character she surmised, “As a couple, they are a classic match of a high-testosterone male and the high-estrogen female, and they have many cultural and biological traits that will fuel their romance.”

Geoff Johns, DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer and writer on JUSTICE LEAGUE #12 added, “This is going to be an interesting ride for these two heroes. It raises all kinds of questions? Does this relationship go public? Is it secret? How would Lois Lane or Steve Trevor react? The Justice League? The villains? The world? And...Batman? They’re certainly compatible, but the environment they live in is about as stressful as it can get. We’ll see what wins out."

To find out more survey results, get an in-depth look at Dr. Fisher’s compatibility analysis and check out Match.com profile pages for Superman and Wonder Woman, please visit: http://blog.match.com/superman-wonder-woman.

JUSTICE LEAGUE #12 is the conclusion of “THE VILLAIN’S JOURNEY” story arc revealing a struggle between the team of Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg and Green Lantern as they combat their newest adversary, Graves.  During this time the chemistry between Superman and Wonder Woman heats up, reaching a boiling point that will have long lasting effects.  The story is written by the best-selling and award-winning DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer, Geoff Johns with breathtaking illustrations by renowned artist and DC Entertainment co-publisher, Jim Lee.

DIGITAL FIRST SPOTLIGHT: Ame-Comi Girls

Did you know that you no longer have to wait till Wednesday to read a brand new DC comic? From the early adventures of a still-developing Superman to epic-scale action set far in our future to vastly imaginative Batman tales spun by some of the best creators in comics, you can find the action you crave starring the characters you love Monday through Friday, and you don’t even need to leave your living room to do it. (Also, be sure to read to the end of the article to find out how you can win a free download of each day’s title!)

This week in THE SOURCE and on DCComics.com, we’ll be spotlighting some of our great Digital First comics. If you’re new to the world of DC Digital Firsts, this is your chance to find out what these titles are about. And if you’re already a fan, it’s your opportunity to learn about what’s coming in current and future storylines from the people who are working on them.

We start things off with a look at AME-COMI GIRLS, a splashy, fun action series featuring alternate versions of your favorite DC heroines based on the popular line of figures from DC Collectibles. A new installment of the Ame-Comi comic is available every Monday in the DC Digital store.

Here’s series writer Justin Gray (All-Star Western, G.I. Combat) on what makes Ame-Comi worth a look:

“Fun. There I said it. Out loud. Fun seems to be one of those words people shy away from in comics. Like it is a curse or somehow diminishes the respectability of the characters and medium. Seems everyone wants a lot of teeth clenching and ‘Grrr, I’m angsty’ in their comics, which I’m cool with, but every once in a while fun is good, fun is refreshing, fun is taking all the great women of the DCU and watching them rule the world. That’s what Ame-Comi Girls has been and continues to be in bite-sized digital installments every Monday. (Don’t worry if you’re not doing digital, in October the series kicks off the ongoing print run with Wonder Woman.)

Ame-Comi Girls is an ongoing team book featuring the likes of Batgirl and Robin, Power Girl, Duela Dent, Steel, Green Lantern and so many of your favorites. It is the DCU and characters in ways you haven’t seen before and I’m not just talking about the costumes. What if I told you that Krypton and Earth were related? What if the Silver Banshees were mecha armor-wearing, xenophobic terrorists trying to rid the world of Power Girl?

Whether in digital or print everyone involved hopes you’ll give Ame-Comi Girls a read!”

Co-writer Jimmy Palmiotti (All-Star Western, Phantom Lady) also had a few things to add:

“Whenever I explain this series, I always just tell people that we are delivering a weekly dose of the coolest female characters in the DC Universe. It really is that simple, and yet it’s something that has never been done before…which was the attraction and challenge for us. With this ongoing series, we took everything we love about these characters and focused on the core of what makes them so cool to everyone. We know what people are expecting and we plan on continuing to surprise them each and every week.”

AME-COMI GIRLS: POWER GIRL #3 is out today, while next Monday marks the launch of the latest Ame-Comi arc, AME-COMI GIRLS: SUPERGIRL #1.

Batwoman teams up with Wonder Woman

On October 17, two of the most legendary female superheroes in the DC Universe will team up to fight a grave threat. Beginning in BATWOMAN #13, Kate Kane will join forces with none other than the Princess of Amazons herself, Wonder Woman.

“We're super excited to be tackling Wonder Woman for a bit in the upcoming arc of BATWOMAN,” series co-writer and artist J.H. Williams III told THE SOURCE. “But also feel a sense of trepidation and responsibility, with her probably being the most iconic female hero of all time in comics. We needed to approach her with reverence and respect. And also wanted to give her a sense of purity in how she is drawn, something clear in her appearance, overt and forward. Now doing this, and then setting her next to Batwoman produces fascinating juxtapositions of their styles and nature of their characters. Batwoman being shadowy and a bit withdrawn, Wonder Woman being bold and vibrant. They do have things in common with their sense of purpose, but yet also things that make them quite different from each other, and them coming together brings out complimentary aspects much in the same way Batman and Superman do for each other as characters. The result is a compelling union of two iconic women that bring balance to how they can be perceived.”

BATWOMAN #13 is written by J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman and features art and a cover by J.H. Williams III. Take an exclusive sneak peek at the issue by checking out Williams’ cover below.

5.2 Reasons Brian Azzarello is One of the Best Writers in Comics

Welcome DC Entertainment fans to a brand new weekly feature where we list off 5.2 Reasons of varying subjects of greatness from across our line of books, collectibles, and more!

Wednesday marked the launch of BEFORE WATCHMEN: COMEDIAN, and while old Eddie Blake might see the world as a dark and twisted place, we personally like to take a look at the positives—namely the existence of totally awesome comic creators like Comedian writer Brian Azzarello.

Already a huge fan of Azzarello, his involvement in Before Watchmen got us more pumped than Schwarzenegger—especially considering the characters he'd be working on. We took a look at the comic catalog to give you 5.2 Reasons Brian Azzarello is One of the Best Writers in Comics.

1. Wonder Woman
WONDER WOMAN #10 is out this week, but with the first issue alone, Azzarello solidified his spot in the pantheon of brilliant WW writers—embracing instead of shying away from the Amazon Princess's mythological roots. Coupled with the insanely gifted artist Cliff Chiang—who perfectly captures and balances Diana's might and beauty—Wonder Woman is like a gift from the gods.

2. 100 Bullets
Loaded with intrigue and blasting a non-stop barrage of action-filled slugs, Azzarello and artist Eduardo Risso's 100 Bullets hits the mark as one of Vertigo's quintessential reads. Get the new Deluxe Edition trades or go digital with all 100 issues. And for more awesome collaborations from these two creators, check out BATMAN: KNIGHT OF VENGEANCE and SPACEMAN.

3. First Wave
Batman, Doc Savage, The Spirit—classic characters, all interacting and adventuring in the same world along with Black Canary, Rima the Jungle Girl and more. If you love pulp (the style of storytelling, not necessarily the stuff in juice, but sure, that, too) grab the softcover collection, which hit stores this week.

4. Joker
This comes as part of a one-two punch with the next entry, but whenever Azzarello teams with artist Lee Bermejo, the only joke is that this collaboration doesn't happen all the time. Insanely beautiful images pair with a darkly disturbing story that explores the criminal side of Gotham and features grisly realistic interpretations of Batman's famous foes.

5. Luthor
BATMAN/DEATHBLOW marked the first collaboration between Azzarello and Bermejo, but LUTHOR is the one that put the team on the veritable map. Originally a five-issue limited series, the graphic novel collection includes 10 new pages of material! The title takes a look at the inner workings and motivations behind humanity's self-proclaimed "savior."

5.1 He'll Be Teaming With Bermejo Once More On:

5.2 He May or May Not Be the God of War

Those are the reasons we're big fans of Brian Azzarello. What are yours? Feel free to sound off below, and we'll see you again in a week with another edition of 5.2 Reasons!
