NYCC 2010: A note from KNIGHT & SQUIRE writer Paul Cornell

hexo-ad-mock-up-copy

Sorry, really, actually, hugely sorry not to be at NYCC. I am promised to a tiny SF convention in Britain. I'm so psyched to be doing Knight and Squire, especially with Jimmy Broxton. I'm amazed that a major US publisher is letting us get away with such deeply British nonsense. I've just given the Knight a deeply American butler, and they let me! Richard III is now a supervillain using social networking, and they let me! And all the whimsy turning into a rather bittersweet love story tragedy... Actually, this is the first they'll have heard about that... cheerio!

NYCC 2010: A first look at BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #1 and BATMAN INCORPORATED #1

Game on, folks. Starting a 1pm today, the doors to the Javits Center in NYC open up and NYCC 2010 will be in full swing. As Ian noted a few days ago, we’ll have an impressive array of talent, panels and giveaways to keep fans attending the show.

But what to do until the show starts?

How about a first look at writer/artist David Finch’s BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #1? We’ve got a preview that’ll knock your socks off, as the kids say. And if that's not enough, we've got some pages from Grant Morrison and Yanick Paquette's BATMAN INCORPORATED #1, both hitting in November. Also, if you’re attending the show, you can find the pages printed in the NYCC convention booklet.

Stay tuned to The Source all weekend for updates, panel art and info.

See you at the show!

DC NATION: Toronto, Here We Come!

It seems like just yesterday that I was flying back from San Diego Comic-Con and now here we are and it’s time for the next stop on the 2010 DC Nation tour – Fan Expo Canada at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Canada from August 27-29. Actually it was just yesterday that I flew back from San Diego, but thanks to the magic of comics you’re reading this weeks from when I write it. I’m jealous because when you read this it’s almost football season and you’ve seen a certain action movie that hasn’t come out yet as I’m writing this. I’m also hungry and I’m assuming that when you read this I’ll have eaten something. I’m really looking forward to the future—one month from now. Huh? Oh, right! I was talking about Fan Expo Canada. While I won’t be able to attend, I’m counting on all of our fans in Canada to keep a great tradition alive. You see, I once mentioned Dan DiDio’s love of the strangely flavored potato chips that are available in Canada. The DC Nation fans responded by brining Dan a TON of chips to the show.

So get ready and let’s try to top last year’s haul by bringing an obscene amount of chips to the show. I’m not kidding, people – let’s make this dream a reality. Only you can make this happen! Bring your odd-flavored chips to any of our industry-leading panels and have a blast asking questions of your favorite creators while delivering your contribution to the chip bonanza. Speaking of guests, check out this stellar rundown of who you can meet at Fan Expo Canada:

Gary Frank, Andy Kubert, J. Michael Straczynski, Ethan Van Sciver, Doug Mahnke, Brian Azzarello, Darwyn Cooke, Francis Manapul, Yanick Paquette, Cameron Stewart, Jeff Lemire and many more!

That’s some list, huh? If you are anywhere near Canada I’d suggest getting the heck over to this show, otherwise you might miss something totally awesome. And be sure to say hi to Dan for me when you drop off the chips.

Be seeing you,

Ian Sattler, Senior Story Editor DCU

SDCC 2010: And now…BATMAN INC.

Remember when we told you to sit tight for another BATMAN announcement?

Well, here it is.

As revealed on the BATMAN panel at San Diego Comic-Con, writer Grant Morrison will be helming a new, ongoing Batman series: BATMAN INC., featuring art by the ultra-talented Yanick Paquette.

What does the “INC.” stand for? How will this new series build upon the amazing stories Grant has crafted in the pages of BATMAN and BATMAN AND ROBIN?

All will be revealed shortly on the BATMAN San Diego Comic-Con panel, as Grant shares a few details about the new series, talks about his overarching Batman story and teases BATMAN: THE RETURN, the issue that leads into the new ongoing.

It’s not an understatement to say Grant’s vision for the Dark Knight and his world has been an epic, evolving and all-encompassing tale. One that has not only put Batman – both Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson – through the ringer, but also redefined what the legend of the Batman means to those around him.

With BATMAN INC., Grant Morrison inverts the expected and presents a huge element of the unexpected to the Batman mythos, presenting a Batman status quo that is both new and energizing while at the same time remarkably familiar. We caught up with BATMAN Group Editor Michael Marts for some thoughts on what’s to come. Mike?

“Everything’s been leading to this. Bruce Wayne made his long journey home in THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE. Then Gotham City’s protector came back in BATMAN: THE RETURN. Now comes BATMAN INC.--the next phase of the Dark Knight as only mastermind writer Grant Morrison could imagine it. Joined on art by Yanick Paquette, this brand-new monthly series starring Batman and an unexpected supporting cast is sure to shock and surprise!”

Batman hits the high seas in RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE #3

Yanick Paquette steps into the artist’s chair and joins forces with writer Grant Morrison to tell a pirate’s tale – featuring our hero, a time-lost Bruce Wayne, struggling to find his way back home as some of his own friends struggle to prevent it from happening. But let’s see if he survives a dangerous bout with something more dangerous than seasickness.

BATMAN: THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE #3 hits 6/23.
