But here at the DC Entertainment offices in midtown Manhattan, it’s easy to forget about the gray skies and dark clouds when we’re surrounded by so much bright artwork and comic book décor. So shake off your umbrella and join us inside by viewing the virtual tours of our offices over at BUZZFEED and CNET.
And our offices are not the only virtual tours you can take today. Gearing up for the upcoming releases of BEFORE WATCHMEN and the “Second Wave” of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, BUZZFEED has your first looks at some behind-the-scenes artwork from both. Check them out here and here.
During a C2E2 panel today moderated by Geoff Johns, DC Collectibles revealed an exciting line-up of new products, including a new Dr. Manhattan BEFORE WATCHMEN statue, an all-new We Can Be Heroes 7-pack action figure set featuring the DC Comics – The New 52 action figures, and variant busts from The Dark Knight Rises product line.
The Dr. Manhattan statue is the third figure to be revealed in a line of products based on characters from the highly-anticipated BEFORE WATCHMEN prequel comic book mini-series. Statues for Rorschach and The Comedian were previously announced and all of the figures will go on sale later this year.
The DC Collectibles team also revealed a very special action figure set that will benefit DC Entertainment’s giving campaign that fights the hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa, We Can Be Heroes (www.WeCanBeHeroes.org). The set will go on sale in October 2012 and feature DC Comics – The New 52 action figures based on iconic characters including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg. DC Collectibles will release the figures individually starting with Batman in May 2012, however as an added bonus for collectors who purchase the set, they will get the Superman figure well before its individual release date in 2013. A percentage of proceeds from the action figure set will benefit We Can Be Heroes.
“We’re thrilled to be supporting We Can Be Heroes,” stated Geoff Johns, chief creative officer for DC Entertainment. “The DC Comics – The New 52 action figures have proven to be one of our most popular product lines, so we feel the new 7-pack set is a great way to raise awareness and money for such a worthwhile cause.”
And lastly, for fans who can’t get enough of The Dark Knight Rises, DC Collectibles revealed two new variant busts featuring Batman and Bane, adding to an already extensive line of collectibles inspired by the film. The busts will go on sale this fall.
This summer, DC Entertainment will publish BEFORE WATCHMEN, seven all-new prequel mini-series building on the foundation of the bestselling graphic novel of all time – and at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) this weekend, fans will have access to creator panels, signings and the NEW FRONTIERSMAN promotional newspaper – available for the very first time at the event.
This week marks the launch of the NEW FRONTIERSMAN online experience at www.newfrontiersman.net, chronicling the cultural shift that saw vigilantism outlawed in the world of WATCHMEN. Simulating the tabloid featured in the stories themselves, the online newspaper will feature interactive components, exclusive BEFORE WATCHMEN asset reveals and clues to the story elements that won’t be seen until the miniseries begin their roll-out in June. C2E2 attendees will have the opportunity to pick up a copy of the NEW FRONTIERSMAN newspaper at the DCE Entertainment booth.
Among the iconoclastic BEFORE WATCHMEN creators attending C2E2 will be Brian Azzarello (writer – RORSCHACH, COMEDIAN), Lee Bermejo (artist – RORSCHACH), Amanda Conner (artist – SILK SPECTRE), Adam Hughes (artist – DR. MANHATTAN), J. Michael Straczynski (writer – DR. MANHATTAN, NITE OWL) and Len Wein (original series editor, writer – OZYMANDIAS, CURSE OF THE CRIMSON CORSAIR). DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Dan DiDio and BEFORE WATCHMEN editors Will Dennis and Mark Chiarello will also be on-hand to discuss their respective roles in putting together the highly anticipated mini-series.
C2E2 will take place from April 13-15 in the North Building at McCormick Place in Chicago.
