DC Nation Kicks Off with Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice on Cartoon Network

All-New Hour-Long Block Premieres Saturday, March 3 at 10 a.m. (ET, PT)

Cartoon Network, Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment are teaming up to present DC Nation, a full hour of exclusive kids’ television programming and shorts based on DC Comics characters. Full of action and humor, DC Nation brings some of the most beloved and legendary heroes — as well as some lesser-known cult favorites — from the pages of DC Comics to the screens of a whole new generation of fans. Anchored by Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice, DC Nation will premiere Saturday, March 3, at 10 a.m. (ET, PT).

Green Lantern: The Animated Series debuted in November 2011 on Cartoon Network as a special one-hour movie event and was greeted with much critical acclaim: Variety lauded the “beautifully rendered” series for its “bold, sleek design.” Now fans can experience the series again from the very beginning. With stunning, stylized CG animation, Green Lantern: The Animated Series takes viewers on a journey of cosmic proportions as Hal Jordan and his band of heroes fight to save the universe.

The second half hour of DC Nation will be comprised of new episodes of Young Justice, a series which Entertainment Weekly called a “super-ior cartoon” with “a good dose of super-hero action.” The series continues with more adventures for Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis as they continue to try to prove themselves as superheroes while dealing with all the pitfalls of being teenagers.

Rounding out this branded block of original programming will be a number of shorts featuring DC Comics super heroes and characters as you have never seen them before. With fresh designs and concepts, fan favorites such as Plastic Man and Doom Patrol will finally take center stage next to the likes of Wonder Woman and Teen Titans. Bringing them to life will be the result of a collaboration with some of the top talents in the animation industry, which include award-winning Aardman Studios (Arthur Christmas, Wallace and Gromit) with its stop-motion clay animation techniques, and the unique direction and character designs of Lauren Faust (The Powerpuff Girls, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic). In addition to these shorts, DC Nation will also feature event programming, interstitials, exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at theatrical motion pictures and an insider look into the world of all things DC Comics.

DCU in 2011: A DC Nation note from Diane Nelson

diane_nelson_dcnation

Hi, Diane Nelson here with a very special New Year's greeting to all of the DC Nation.

Let me start by saying it's quite the privilege to be kicking off the new year with this column. Over the last year plus, since becoming President of DC Entertainment, I've had the opportunity to meet several of you at conventions and to see firsthand the excitement and loyalty you have to our characters and stories. We at DC have just come off an incredible year in comics where events like BRIGHTEST DAY, BATMAN: THE RETURN and SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE captured the attention of even the most casual of fans, in both print and digital. In looking back at 2010, we have so much of which to be proud. And we're only just beginning!

In this upcoming year we are planning projects and events to capture and explore the depth and breadth of our character library, not just in comics, but in all media. From gaming, with the launch of DC Universe Online, to film, with the most anticipated movie of the year, GREEN LANTERN, there will be more opportunities to enjoy these characters and stories than ever before.

So much of what we do is with you, the fan, in mind. Our every effort is to insure the quality and integrity of the characters and stories you have grown to love, no matter in which medium they are showcased. If we were to make one New Year's resolution for the company, it would be to make DC the leader in all media, while growing the reach of comics to more fans - existing and new. We are taking steps to achieve this goal through new digital distribution plans and, just as important, by keeping our current line of comics affordable by holding the $2.99 price!

There are so many talented people working here at DC across all three of our brands -- DC Universe, Vertigo and MAD. Each and every one of them is dedicated to making DC Entertainment the best it can be. Even though I'm new to the world of comics, I have quickly come to understand the excitement comics and their characters bring to fans. That excitement is infectious; I feel it in the halls of DC, at conventions -- frankly, anywhere someone asks me what I do; I always get the same look of envy and awe when I say I work for DC. It's a great feeling of pride and family and one I know each of you shares on some level. So let's lift a glass to celebrate what has come before while celebrating what's yet to come. It's going to be a great journey.

Wishing you all the happiest of New Years and hope you will continue to join us for all that we have planned in the year ahead.

Happy Thanksgiving, DC NATION!

BMRBW_Cv2_ds.indd

Before we dive into our regularly scheduled DC NATION, I’d like to let you know a few things:

First and foremost, have a wonderful, safe and belly-filling Thanksgiving. What’s better than sitting around with friends and family while you eat and watch football? Not a whole lot.

Second – swing by the blog early Friday morning for a special holiday treat. Trust me on this one.

And third, because the DC offices will be closed early today and for the rest of the week, the dreaded “posting will be light” indicator is now on. But don’t worry, we’ll be back full throttle on Monday with some previews that are guaranteed tot knock you back into that Thanksgiving food coma.

Until then, here’s a quick romp around DCU Editorial, as some of the editors chime in about what they’re thankful this time of year. Take it away, gang:

Rex Ogle: I’m thankful for my officemate Sean Ryan who always makes my workday a pleasant one. I suspect he may be made of kittens and unicorns and children’s laughter.

Wil Moss: Just like last year, I’m thankful for the astounding artwork of the newly DC-exclusive CAFU, currently blowing minds left and right in the pages of T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS! And I’m thankful that the legendary Eduardo Risso made time in his schedule to illustrate December’s JONAH HEX #62!

Liz Gehrlein: I’m grateful for the letters that kids send to Johnny DC. Reading them is one of my favorite parts of the job!

Joey Cavalieri: I’m thankful that I get to work on the Spirit, since Will Eisner was one of my teachers as well as a personal favorite — hell, one of everybody’s personal favorites!

Mike Marts: I am thankful for writer/artists — Dave Finch , Tony Daniel — that means you!

Rachel Gluckstern: I’ve been told that the TEEN TITANS are grateful for the new blood on their team — I think they should’ve been more careful what they wished for!

Brian Cunningham: I am thankful for all the visits I receive from other editors who mooch off my stash of free gum…waitaminute — they should be thankful for ME!

Mike Carlin: I am thankful for an amazing 25 years at DC Comics!

Mark Chiarello: I’m thankful that every episode of Columbo is on DVD.

Eddie Berganza: I am extremely thankful for all my hardworking freelancers — you know who you are! You make the comics awesome because you are awesome!

Matt Idelson: I’m thankful to be doing something I love for a living.

Chris Conroy: I am thankful for all the candy still left around the office from Halloween. DON’T JUDGE.

Sean Ryan: I’m thankful for my officemate Rex Ogle for making the workday feel a little like dipping my toe into a shallow pool of Heaven.

Ian Sattler: I’m grateful for all the members of the DC Nation who come out and support us at all the shows.
