DC Collectibles 101: Anatomy of an Action Figure

Most of us study human anatomy in high school or college. We learn about bones, muscles and tendons, which are the three building blocks of most joints.

Well, a good action figure has plenty of joints as well, and they’re worth knowing if you’re a collector. Fortunately, unlike human joints, which have names like acromioclavicular and carpometacarpal, our joints don’t sound like the sort of words Harry Potter and Voldemort might shout out while shooting their wands at each other. They have much simpler names, but they can do almost as much.

Three Things We Know About Doctor Death

After last month’s future-set spoiler issue, this week’s BATMAN #29 marks the return of “Zero Year” and the conclusion of the storyline’s second chapter, “Dark City.” If you’ve been reading, you know that the still pretty untested Dark Knight has been dealing with no shortage of problems, including a city-wide blackout, a major storm and plenty of trouble from the Gotham City Police Department. However, most disturbing of all may be the grotesquely malformed corpses that have been popping up around the city—the gruesome calling card of a previously unheard of villain known as Doctor Death.

SCOTT SNYDER ANNOUNCES FLASH-FORWARD BATMAN #28 WITH ART BY DUSTIN NGUYEN

Scott Snyder announced today via Twitter that BATMAN #28 will be a special issue that shows what's happening in the world of Batman after ZERO YEAR and will be drawn by Dustin Nguyen!

“We agreed,” says Snyder, “that with all the crazy stuff that's going to happen in 2014 - and my goal above all in 2014 is to keep things daring and fun - it'd be a thrill to do a total spoiler issue. A stand-alone issue that takes place in the near future and reveals all sorts of massive surprises coming to Gotham.”

This Just Happened: ZERO YEAR TIE-INS!

Six years ago, the legend of Batman emerged amid the greatest catastrophe Gotham had ever endured. A maniac calling himself The Riddler shut down all electric power mere days before a terrifying superstorm. But the Dark Knight isn’t the only hero to surface during this moment in time known only as the ZERO YEAR!

SPOILER ALERT: If you have not read BATMAN #25 or the ZERO YEAR tie-ins yet and do not wish to know what happens, stop reading this post now (major spoilers ahead!).
