Even if you don’t know his name, if you’re a fan of DC Comics or Collectibles, you’re pretty familiar with the work of our latest spotlight artist. Heck, if you’ve so much as stepped into a comic shop or onto the floor of a comic convention at least once this past year, you’ve likely come across the distinct interpretations of DC Comics heroines reimagined in the style of classic pinup art that we call the DC Comics Bombshells.
When you think of the hundreds of heroes and villains that populate the pages of DC comic books, “cute” probably isn’t the first word to come to mind.
Unless you happen to be playing Scribblenauts Unmasked – A DC Comics Adventure.
It's time for another DC Collectibles Spotlight! Sculptor Jack Mathews is perhaps best known for his work in our DC Comics Cover Girls line, but he’s also sculpted many of the action figures in our ever popular DC Comics – The New 52 line. It’s clear Jack enjoys his work—it’s visible in the final product!—but if you’re curious about what else he enjoys, read on…
When we announced The New 52 back in 2012, the focus was understandably on the comics. Fifty-two first issues is an impressive feat. But it didn’t take long for The New 52 to permeate into other areas of the business, like DC Collectibles. After all, we love reading and watching super heroes fight, but we’re not ashamed to admit that we still like making them fight and there’s no better way to do that than with a nice set of action figures. (You could do it with our statues as well, but we REALLY don’t recommend that. Seriously, don’t.
In our latest DC Collectibles Artist Spotlight, we speak with Irene Matar, the brilliant sculptor of our eagerly awaited Batman: The Animated Series action figures. Irene is an amazing talent and considering how popular this line is proving to be, we suspect you’ll be seeing her work in comic and specialty stores—and hopefully in your own collections—for some time to come.

Tomorrow, we’ll unite as a nation to celebrate our great country’s birth by lighting off fireworks, firing up our barbecues and doing other things that the fire department would probably prefer if we didn’t. We’ll sing our national anthem loudly, fly our flags proudly and end the day feeling…um, wowedly?
Welcome back to DCU, students. Our summer term is now in session. As you may recall, last semester Professor Bruce Wayne taught us all about the anatomy of action figures, covering the four common action figure joints and illustrating where each one could be found by way of a handy, beautifully designed chart.
Holy Collectible Close-Up, Batman!
