It’s hard to believe, but it’s 2013. While we’re look forward to the exciting year ahead, let’s take a quick glance backwards at 2012 and the numerous “Best Of” lists DC Comics, Vertigo, and DC Collectibles appeared on.
 
USA TODAY featured Scott Snyder as Best Writer, PUNK ROCK JESUS as Best Miniseries, The Joker as Best Villain, gave MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE honorable mention as Best Digital Series, and more!
 

 

MTV SPLASH PAGE ranked Batman as #5 in its list of “Best Super Heroes Of The Year, while they named Bane and Talia Al Ghul to its list of “Top Five Supervillains of 2012.”

THE AV CLUB listed the best mainstream comics of 2012 and included ALL STAR WESTERN, PUNK ROCK JESUS and WONDER WOMAN.

FAST COMPANY selected BATMAN: ARKHAM UNHINGED among the “10 Coolest Original Digital Comics of 2012.”
 
GAWKER’s IO9 included BATMAN, THE UNWRITTEN and WONDER WOMAN in their list of “The Absolute Best Comics and Graphic Novels of 2012.” Additionally, IO9 listed the “12 Most Epic Heroes of Science Fiction and Fantasy” and included Batman and Wonder Woman.
 
MTV GEEK ranked BEFORE WATCHMEN as #4 in their list of “2012’s Most OMG Moments in Geek.”

 


 
CRAVE ONLINE included ALL-STAR WESTERN in its list of the top comics of 2012.

BLOODY DISGUSTING created a list of the best comics of 2012 and included ANIMAL MAN, THE NEW DEADWARDIANS and SWEET TOOTH.

TOPLESS ROBOT listed the “The 10 Best Graphic Novels and Trade Paperbacks of 2012,” including BATMAN: EARTH ONE, BATWOMAN: HYDROLOGY, HELLBLAZER: THE DEVIL’S TRENCHCOAT, SCALPED VOL 10: TRAILS END, SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE VOLUME 2, WONDER WOMAN VOL. 1: BLOOD and XOMBI.

 


COMIC BOOK RESOURCES’ list of Best 100 comics of 2012 included ANIMAL MAN, AQUAMAN, BATMAN, BATWOMAN, DIAL H, FABLES, HELLBLAZER, IZOMBIE, PRINCE OF CATS, PUNK ROCK JESUS, SCALPED, THE SHADE, SWAMP THING, SWEET TOOTH, THE UNWRITTEN, and WONDER WOMAN.

Additionally, CBR also chose their favorite covers of 2012, which included BEFORE WATCHMEN: COMEDIAN #2, SCALPED #60 and THE UNWRITTEN #44.

And over at COMIC BOOK RESOURCES ROBOT 6, the staff chose their favorite comics of 2012. Tom Bondurant included BATMAN INCORPORATED, DIAL H, GREEN LANTERN, SUPERGIRL and SWAMP THING in his picks. Michael May selected SUPERGIRL and JK Parkin chose GREEN LANTERN.

AOL’s COMICS ALLIANCE selected their favorite comic covers of 2012 and included AMERICAN VAMPIRE #29, BATMAN #7, BATWOMAN #15, FABLES #115, FAIREST #4, HELLBLAZER #298, SCALPED #59, THE UNWRITTEN #44 and WONDER WOMAN #7.

Additionally, they gave the “Most Gorgeous Title Pages” award to THE FLASH and “Best Comic With Superman In It” award to SUPERMAN FAMILY ADVENTURES.

And in digital comics, COMICS ALLIANCE spotlighted JUSTICE LEAGUE BEYOND on their “Best of 2012” List.
 
IGN’s “Best Comic Book Series of 2012” goes to Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s BATMAN, and their “Best Digital Comics Series” People’s Choice Winner was LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT.

 


 
NEWSARAMA ranked SUPERMAN #1 and THE JUSTICE LEAGUE #6 in their list of “10 Characters to Watch in 2013.”
 
COMIC VINE included AQUAMAN #15, BATMAN #15, BEFORE WATCHMEN: MINUTEMEN #5, JSA LIBERTY FILES: THE WHISTLING SKULL #1, JUSTICE LEAGUE #15 and WONDER WOMAN #15 in its monthly round up of the top comics for December 2012. “Night of the Owls” was also selected as a favorite storyline of the year.
 
They also featured a list of their top ten news stories of 2012 which included “Five Revelations About Starfire From RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS”, “DC Comics Announces The Return Of The Joker” and “Interview: Scott Snyder Talks 'Return of the Joker: Death of the Family.”
 
Additionally, COMIC VINE selected “Batman Vs Nobody” in the “Best New Comic Book Battles This Year: 2012” column. Honorable mention was given to “Batman Vs Lincoln March.”
 
IFANBOY served up many best of lists for 2012. Spotlighting such categories as “Best Comic Writers” which named Jason Aaron of SCALPED as the best writer of 2012. Scott Snyder was a named a finalist. Brian Azzarello and Darwyn Cooke both received honorable mentions.

“Best Reprinted Material of 2012” where they included BATMAN: NO MAN’S LAND, CATWOMAN VOL 1: TRAIL OF THE CATWOMAN, FLEX MENTALLO: MAN OF MUSCLE MYSTERY: DELUXE EDITION, SHOWCASE PRESENTS: SHOWCASE VOL. 1 and THE NEW TEEN TITANS OMNIBUS VOL. 2.

“Best Innovations/Uses of the Medium” list for “2012 Best of the Year in Comics” they selected BATMAN.
 
Lastly, in their list of the “Best Characters” of 2012, IFANBOY included Harper Row and Laurie Jupiter.
