It’s Thanksgiving week here in the States, and we can’t wait to carve into the turkey and cut off a slice of delicious pumpkin pie. Or two. Or maybe three. (Hey, Thanksgiving only comes once a year, okay?! Yeesh!) But before we do that, we’ll be dropping in to the local comic shop and bidding a fond farewell to Geoff Johns as he departs Atlantis in AQUAMAN #26, his final issue as series writer. Johns has contributed much to the character over the past two years, much of which we discuss in this retrospective looking at his four Aquaman storylines. While we’re excited to see what new writer Jeff Parker does with Arthur next month, we’re definitely sad to see Johns go. Over 25 brilliant issues, he’s given us much to be thankful for.

This week also brings us the second issue of Damian: Son of Batman, the gritty, gorgeously drawn miniseries set outside continuity and written and drawn by Andy Kubert. The first issue gave us a glimpse of what might have taken place in the future if Damian Wayne hadn’t met his tragic young demise, and it wasn’t exactly a happy ending. This week, the family dynamic moves to the forefront as a much older Bruce Wayne confronts Damian about how he’s been dealing with the death of Dick Grayson’s Batman and Damian’s search for the Joker leads him to Arkham. And if you thought Arkham was bad before…

Of course, one thing that’s NEVER bad is Kubert’s issue cover, and this month’s is no exception.

And for more artistic perfection, be sure to grab the first special edition of The Sandman: Overture, which fully showcases J.H. Williams III’s pencils. Or the latest issue of Adventures of Superman, which features a story illustrated by David Lapham. Or the always amazing Alex Maleev on Batman: The Dark Knight. Or Aaron Lopresti on Catwoman, Chris Sprouse on The Flash, Mikel Janin on Justice League Dark, and…well, you get the picture.

Check out all of this week’s new comic previews below, and have a happy Thanksgiving!
