Three Things to Look for in Dark Knight III: The Master...

By Tim Beedle Wednesday, February 24th, 2016

SPOILER ALERT: The below article includes some mild spoilers for today's DARK KNIGHT III: THE MASTER RACE #3.

Today, the third issue in Frank Miller’s third Dark Knight series hits the streets. So, with great things clearly arriving in threes, it felt only fitting to highlight three amazing things to look for when you read this eagerly awaited new comic by Miller, Brian Azzarello, Andy Kubert, Klaus Janson and Brad Anderson. Here are three moments you won’t want to miss…

A Softer Side of Bruce Wayne

Dark Knight III #3 opens with a surprisingly tender moment between the now very aged Bruce Wayne and his protégé Carrie Kelley. We’re used to seeing Bruce treat Carrie as a soldier, revealing a real sense of respect for the girl, but hardly what you’d call warmth. However, with age comes wisdom and apparently fatherly (grandfatherly?) affection, and it’s clear Bruce has come to view Carrie as not only a worthy successor to the mantle of Batman, but quite possibly possessing the goods to become a far better one than him. However, what makes this moment really shine is Bruce’s reveal of why he stepped away from the cowl, and why he wasn’t fully honest with Carrie about it.

Batman vs. Superman…Round Three!

Well, in a manner of speaking. Okay, maybe you don’t exactly see Batman slug it out for the third time with his frenemy Kal-El, but you do get to see him crack a hammer over the frozen Man of Steel’s head. And come on, after choosing to hide away and become a Super-cicle rather than owning up to the role he played in the Earth’s near destruction in The Dark Knight Strikes Again, don’t tell us he doesn’t have this coming!

A Shockingly Simple Way of Defeating Green Lantern

This issue’s mini-comic is drawn by Miller and John Romita, Jr., and focuses on Hal Jordan. As usual, we’d suggest reading it after you’ve read the main story, but DO read it. It features a surreal and slightly disturbing interaction between Hal Jordan and three Kryptonian women that doesn’t end so well for the Green Lantern of Sector 2814. It shows us what a threat these rogue Kryptonians truly are and suggests that wielding the most powerful weapon in the known universe...may not make you as powerful as you might think.
