We're going to unravel the Time Masters' secrets.

The Time Masters keep part of Rip's team under lock and key but underestimate the determination of those still aboard the Waverider. Everything seems hopeless—Ray even has a moment where he puts aside healthy eating for cupcakes and donuts because if the world's gonna end, a sugar high makes it better. But, fear not! The heroes rally and destroy the source of the Time Masters' power, running into at least one big secret along the way:

  • Who are the Thanagarians?

Meet Our Would-Be Conquerors

The Time Masters tell Rip why they're letting Vandal Savage run amok; they say he's the only one who can stand against a future attack by the Thanagarians of Thanagar that will extinguish all human life. Ruh-roh.

The planet Thanagar has a very rich history in the comics, and a close tie to the characters of Hawkman, Hawkwoman and Hawkgirl. Thanagar first appeared in BRAVE AND THE BOLD #34, after the success of the Silver Age Flash convinced DC to take a chance on reimagining Hawkman as well. Thanagar is primarily known for being the home of Nth Metal—if you'll remember, that's what the dagger used to kill Khufu and Chay-Ara is made from.

The hawk-like but humanoid residents of Thanagar are known as Thanagarians. They have a longer life span than humans and are stronger with enhanced senses. Katar and Shayera Hol were two Thanagarians who served as Hawk-Police that traveled to Earth and became Hawkman and Hawkwoman. For a unique look at this version of the Hawks, check out the classic ‘90s miniseries, HAWKWORLD.
