Booyah!

Vic Stone has been a member of both the Teen Titans and the Justice League, but he’s soon to add another team affiliation to his resume—the Doom Patrol.

Warner Bros. Television made the inarguably cool announcement today that Joivan Wade will be joining the Doom Patrol TV series cast in the role as Cyborg, the half-human, half-machine former football star who has quickly grown to become one of the most recognizable and beloved heroes in the DC Universe.

Doom Patrol’s take on the classic character seems to be right in line with what fans of the comics will be expecting. Described as charming and sarcastic, Vic may be connected to every computer on the world, but he struggles to maintain the connections that make him human. Desperate to gain acceptance from the outside world, Vic harnesses the curse of his cybernetic body and uses his powers as the ultimate hero for the digital age.

Since his debut in DC COMICS PRESENTS back in 1980, Cyborg has leapt from the page to screens of all types. He first appeared on television in 1985’s Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians before eventually going on to hold a prominent role in both the original Teen Titans animated series and the current Teen Titans Go! He’s also made numerous appearances DC’s various animated movie lines, including the just-released LEGO DC Super Heroes: Aquaman: Rage of Atlantis. As for live action, Doom Patrol will be his second TV appearance, after making his live action debut in a memorable episode of Smallville. And of course, he was notably portrayed by actor Ray Fisher in last year’s Justice League.

Cyborg’s role in Doom Patrol promises to be much meatier, though exactly what form it will take is still uncertain. In the show’s description, it’s suggested that the Doom Patrol will be called to action by Cyborg, who comes to them with “a mission that’s hard to refuse, but with a warning that’s hard to ignore.” Whether he’ll be a formal part of the team alongside already announced cast members April Bowlby as Elasti-Girl and Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane is uncertain at this time.

Joivan Wade is an English actor who has worked consistently in British TV, notably with a multi-episode role on the popular soap EastEnders and a memorable appearance on Doctor Who. However, his most prominent recent appearance was in this summer’s The First Purge. His casting as Cyborg on Doom Patrol gives him his very first superhero role.
