It’s a brand new year, and while we hope it’s a great one for all of you, we KNOW it’s going to be a good year for the Dark Knight. Yes, exactly 75 years ago, Batman made his debut in the pages of 1939’s DETECTIVE COMICS #27. So for the release of 2014’s DETECTIVE COMICS #27, we thought it would be nice to pay tribute to that with an extra-sized, must-read issue featuring some of our favorite Batman writers (including all of our current Bat-scribes) teaming up with some of our favorite artists. Brad Meltzer, Bryan Hitch, Scott Snyder, Sean Murphy, Paul Dini, Dustin Nguyen, Peter J. Tomasi, Guillem March, Gregg Hurwitz and Neal Adams all contributed stories to the issue. And we even got Frank Miller to contribute a variant cover…
If you’re a regular Detective Comics reader, you’re likely lining up at your local shop as we speak. That’s a good thing because Detective Comics #27 also features the start of “Gothtopia” by John Layman and Jason Fabok. “Gothtopia” is the final storyline of their acclaimed run, and it’s unlike anything you’ve seen from Batman before. Imagine a Gotham with no crime—the safest city in the world. What would Batman’s role be in such a city? How would it change his mission? And would it really be better than the Gotham we have now? These are some of the questions “Gothtopia” seeks to answer, while serving up unique variations of Gotham’s heroes and villains that are sure to become favorites among fans.
Of course, we may be highlighting Detective Comics #27, but we have a full slate of new comics out this week, including fresh issues of Action Comics, Batman/Superman, Green Arrow, Batwing (in a “Gothtopia” tie-in issue), Green Lantern, Swamp Thing and the print debut of our Vampire Diaries comic!
