“All is good. All is right. We’ve won.”

Gotham Girl’s spare, chilling words brought Batman #76 to a close as she summed up the harrowing state of Gotham City in Tom King’s “City of Bane.” Controlled by the Venom-fueled villain after he once again defeated the Dark Knight, crime now literally rules in Gotham and all hope has been squashed by Bane’s champions—Thomas Wayne’s Flashpoint Batman and the mind-altered onetime hero Claire Clover. It’s not hard to see why. With Flashpoint Batman’s formidable martial arts skill and fighting prowess and Gotham Girl’s near unrivaled power set, there are very few heroes capable of bringing them down. In fact, just last issue, Claire easily defeated no less than Captain Atom, who attempted to rescue Gotham City and nearly paid for his efforts with his life.

That’s right, Captain Atom. The man who’s literally a human nuclear bomb.

So, it’s hard to imagine what chance Robin has when he confronts Gotham Girl in our first look at Batman #77. Damian’s a gifted fighter, and surely, he could give his grandfather a run for his money—but the younger, superpowered Claire? There’s no chance, right? What would that even look like? It’s time to find out as King and artist Tony S. Daniel are joined by Mikel Janín for this breathtaking sneak peek of what’s ahead in part 3 of King’s climactic Bat-tale.

Batman #77 by Tom King, Mikel Janín, Tony S. Daniel, Norm Rapmund, Jordie Bellaire and Tomeu Morey is in stores Wednesday.
