Anyone who’s survived the corridors of high school knows that it’s not easy being a kid, and parents can be a particular source of annoyance and embarrassment.
When Robin burst onto his first cover of Detective Comics, DC showed that its universe was ready to change and evolve with the dynamics of their characters. Legacy is an important theme that runs throughout the DC Universe, and one we’ve discussed here in this column before. Still, it’s such an important theme that to kick off 2018, I’m picking three collections that will be released this month that I think you will not only enjoy, but feature the legacy of the DC Universe.
Superman is an inspiration to all of us. He brings hope to the world and serves as a continual reminder of what we can accomplish.
No ever said that inspiration was exclusive to Earth.
Legacy is an important word in the DC Universe. From the very first time that Barry Allen put on that red spandex, he was stepping into the legacy of Jay Garrick. Many characters can handle the responsibility and some can’t. This month all the DC collected editions that I suggest you pick up, have one thing in common: Legacy.
Robin has said many times that Jon Kent, AKA Superboy, is too young for the Teen Titans. After all, he’s not technically a teen. Well, that’s getting pretty hard to buy into seeing how Robin is no longer one either. After their run-in with a mysterious trio of villains last month, Damian Wayne has found himself with a sudden case of the olds, and if he’s going to have any hope of reversing the clock and losing the liver spots, he’s going to need Superboy’s help. And maybe a good hip brace.
It’s one of the most popular and powerful Superman stories ever told, but it’s such an epic tale that it can’t be faithfully told over a single film. So when Warner Bros. Animation, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment adapt the famous story of the death and return of the Man of Steel just in time for its 25th Anniversary, it’ll be as two separate feature-length animated movies.
Kids. They always manage to surprise you. Often, it’s with their rambunctious curiosity or their innocent worldview. Occasionally, it’s with their impressive levels of understanding. And sometimes, it’s by gut punching another child super hero and starting a pint-sized, power-packed baby brawl!
It’s going to be a huge year for DC Comics fans, which is why it’s the perfect time to check out the brand new DC Fans YouTube Channel. With new DC comics, movies and TV shows on their way, the excitement is palpable. But while it’s fun to look forward to the future, it’s just as much fun to celebrate the past, which is what our friend Comicstorian excels at.
