Tonight got me. I’ll admit it.
Arrow is a good show in the sense that it makes me think and rethink a number of its themes. There have been a few times I’ve given my thoughts/opinions in a #DCTV Couch Club column, only to look at things from a different light a few episodes later. Not that I always recant my views, but there have been times that I’ve come around to the counter arguments made by other characters regarding certain themes.

This week, Arrow continued its exploration of fan-favorite character Slade Wilson AKA Deathstroke, while thinning out the herd of other storylines. Tonight delved deeper into Slade and really started to peel back some layers to paint a picture of who he is just before giving him a proper sendoff (for now at least).
Wow.

If you read comics, you’re probably familiar with a “filler issue.”
For those who might not be, filler issues often serve as a break between story arcs. Sometimes they occur mid-storyline (which is weird), or they serve to “introduce” a new creative team. Either way, the stories usually have nothing to do with what’s currently going on—it’s usually just a simple/traditional or fun plot that lives outside of a major arc.
Tonight’s Arrow had a little bit of filler issue vibe to it for me.
Hey, hey! Matt Ross, here. If you don’t know me, I cover Arrow for the #DCTV Couch Club. A few months ago, I wrote a readthrough that looked at GREEN ARROW VOL. 1, so when I heard Vol. 2 was out, I was excited to jump into the new trade!
After opening, I did what I think most of us do and immediately flipped through the book as a way to get a feel for what I was about to read.
Diggle dropped a line in tonight’s episode that I feel I’d be doing a disservice if I didn’t start the column out with it. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen or heard a hero in a comic, TV show or movie say this and it’s too good to not repeat. Here it goes:
“We don’t hire criminals and pay them with diabetes drugs!”
Haha. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s move on…
Tonight’s episode had a lot of moving parts—probably the biggest being Anatoly stepping out of the flashbacks and into the present storyline to take care of Ollie’s dirty work.
Four seasons in and Arrow still never fails to surprise, but this year it tipped its hand ever-so-slightly when the season premiere flashed forward to a grieving Oliver standing over an unseen grave. The stakes are higher than ever this season, and it’s clear that not every member of Team Arrow is going to survive. But who’s the unlucky victim?
Last week, we were given our first look at the new suit and helmet that John Diggle will be wearing this season on Arrow. It’s a drastically different look for the previously street clothed enforcer, something that was made even clearer when we saw it in action in the Season 4 trailer.
When last we saw Stephen Amell’s masked protector, he was headed off to beachside bliss alongside Felicity Smoak. But if you thought it would be sunshine and happiness for the happy couple from here on out, think again. Things are looking awfully dark (or should we say “Darhk”) for Oliver Queen and his team in the just released Arrow Season 4 trailer. Looks like that ride off into the sunset will have to wait!
