When it comes to storytelling, you couldn’t ask for a bigger canvas than the far reaches of outer space. And when it comes to stories set beyond the stars, there may be no better medium than comic books. After all, comics can tell a fully visual story limited only by the creative team’s imagination. There’s nowhere they can’t take you. Which means, you can expect a lot from Threshold, the exciting new sci-fi series joining the ranks of DC COMICS – THE NEW 52 this week. Written by comics legend Keith Giffen and drawn by Tom Raney and Scott Kolins, THRESHOLD #1 tells two equally intriguing tales—a main story featuring disgraced Green Lantern Jediah Caul and a backup starring the greedy, great Larfleeze. Both stories promise plenty of two-fisted action and a colorful cast of roughneck characters. The first issue hits shops on Wednesday, but you can check out a preview and an interview with Giffen below.

Of course, if there’s one thing that can rival the scope of Threshold, it’s “Death of the Family,” which continues this week in the pages of BATMAN #16, BATGIRL #16 and BATMAN AND ROBIN #16. Enjoy these first-looks at all of them, along with io9’s look at DEMON KNIGHTS #16, which launches into an exciting new direction at the hands of new writer Robert Venditti. All this plus “He’l on Earth” in SUPERBOY #16, new writer Michael Alan Nelson on THE RAVAGERS #8, new miniseries INSURGENT #1 and much, much more.
