5.2 Spine-Tinglingly Awesome Justice League Battles

By Kevin Mahadeo Thursday, February 6th, 2014

The Justice League is known for many things: uniting the World's Greatest Super Heroes under the banner of battling evil and upholding truth and justice; multiple incarnations throughout the various years featuring heroes from all across the DC Universe; even amazing animated programs and original animated films worthy of re-watch after re-watch even though you can quote every line by heart.

However, one of the best things the JL is known for: awe-inspiring fights and kick ass throwdowns against some of the biggest and baddest villains in the DC Universe.

Continuing our weeklong celebration of the League (We got party hats and cake and everything! Weeklong cake! Nothing can go wrong with that plan!), we're going to give you 5.2 Spine-Tinglingly Awesome Justice League Battles!

1. Versus the White Martians

The opening act of Grant Morrison's JLA featured the League taking on a group of White Martians (in their first ever appearance no less) posing as "heroes" calling themselves the Hyperclan. The various battle between the individual members of the League and the White Martians are each awesome, but in this particular tale, Batman's badassery shines through when he figured out they were Martians to begin with and then proceeded to single-handedly beat FOUR of them.

2. Versus Lex Luthor and Brainiac

From Justice League Unlimited, the League takes on a Lex Luthor/Brainiac hybrid in not only one of the greatest battles in the show's history but also one of the single greatest Flash moments in the history of the character.

3. Versus The Crime Syndicate

Currently in the comic book world, a whole new type of League is coming together to take on the Crime Syndicate in the pages of Forever Evil. But when it comes to the world of animation, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths features not one but two awesome battles between League members and the Crime Syndicate. The action is intense, the stakes are high, and the fights are downright incredible.

4. Versus Darkseid

There's a lot of note-worthy battles between the League and Darkseid. Heck, we just talked about one last week in regards to Justice League: War. However, in the series finale to Justice League Unlimited, heroes from all over the world teamed with essentially the Legion of Doom to take on Darkseid and his army. Seeing everyone suit up and come together, and witnessing Superman, Batman, and Lex Luthor fighting side-by-side, is one of the greatest fan-joy moments ever.

5. Versus Doomsday

While this battle doesn't feature the heaviest hitters in League history, it's still easily one of the most memorable and downright brutal battles in any incarnation. It's especially notable because the League loses—badly. Doomsday beats the ever-living heck out of these guys, but they all fight until they can't any more because in the end, that's what makes them great heroes: they won't stop until the enemy is defeated, even if it costs them their lives.

5.1 Versus Martian Manhunter

In this particular case, less is more. We just get this double-page splash but it's enough to let our imaginations run wild on what this battle was like.

5.2 Literally EVERYONE Versus the Anti-Monitor

There's a lot more amazing Justice League battles throughout the team's long history, so feel free to tell us your personal favorites in the comments!
