Getting an Injection of Super Speed

Caitlin perfects her formula to restore Jay's access to the Speed Force with Velocity 9. In the comics, Velocity was developed by someone more nefarious than Wells: Vandal Savage. He concocted it as something of a street drug in 1988’s THE FLASH #12. Velocity 9 gave the user the power to move at lightning fast speeds but taking it extracted a high price with side effects like early aging, fatigue, and even death. Savage crafted the drug to recruit powerful figures in New York City with the intent of getting them addicted and then controlling them and their resources.

Like Central City residents on Earth-1, Earth-2 citizens turn to Channel 52 for the latest breaking news. The number 52 is referenced repeatedly in the DC Universe, first appearing as a title of a weekly comic series. The number also represents the number of worlds within the Multiverse defined most recently in Grant Morrison’s THE MULTIVERSITY.

Is anyone as well-versed in pop culture as Cisco? We think not. While approaching Zoom's lair, he kids the sheer rock face in front of them is like the Cliffs of Insanity. This is a nod to the massive cliffs Fezzik carried Vizzini, Buttercup, and Inigo Montoya up in The Princess Bride.

See you next week!
