With Rebirth now in full swing and so many exciting new titles to try, we can’t blame anyone for needing a reminder of what happened in the last issue. Or maybe you’re looking to add a new book to your list and need to get caught up on earlier chapters? Either way, we’re here to help. Every week, we’ll be recapping the prior issues of that week’s new Rebirth and Hanna-Barbera comics, as well as sharing our favorite moments. It’s a quick, easy way to ensure you’re up to speed and ready for New Comic Day. Plus, as a bonus, we’ve included a few animated recaps, to give you just a little more detail.

We hope you find these recaps helpful, but be aware that they do contain some spoilers!

Suicide Squad #6

By Rob Williams, Jim Lee, Scott Williams, Sandra Hope, Matt Banning and Alex Sinclair

Something odd is happening at Belle Reve. At first, Flag sees himself shoot and kill Waller, but in reality, the bullet is stopped by Katana’s blade. Waller and Flag then start fighting. At the same time, all the scientists in the room with Zod begin to try and kill each other. The power grid and lights in the prison go out, causing Harcourt and Waller to panic because the brain bombs will now be off line. Prisoners escape from their cells. Hack is taken in by force for questioning, only to be saved by a vision of a highly decomposed Captain Boomerang, who seems to save her getting her head implanted with a bomb (or does she save herself?). Meanwhile, Harcourt, Waller and Katana learn that the Black Vault is putting out a song that is causing everyone in the prison to turn on each other in bloodlust. June and Croc are freed by the power outage and Croc seemingly attacks her.  As the scientists battle to the death, one of them switches the red sunlight to yellow sunlight—causing Zod to start to wake up. But what’s this? While the Black Vault song has caused everyone to go insane, it’s done the opposite to Harley Quinn and turned the usually certifiable prisoner sane.

Unforgettable Moment: Glad that scientist flipped on the yellow sunlight… we’re looking forward to seeing what happens when Zod wakes up!

Wacky Raceland #5

By Ken Pontac, Leonardo Manco, and Mariana Sanzone

With the help of some hallucinogenic, mutated mushrooms, the racers are able to (traumatically) unearth some memories of their lives immediately before the Announcer reawakened them. It turns out that every racer has something in common, they were each the subjects of experimentation care of a lab called the Butcher Shop, and their time there was far from pleasant. With this new knowledge and the possibility of getting real answers—about the race and about themselves—suddenly well within their grasp, the racers take off towards the Butcher Shop. It’s not an easy trip, but they arrive at the abandoned facility relatively in one piece. There’s just one problem: the door is locked. Lucky for them, one of them just so happens to have the key...and much deeper ties to the Butcher Shop than any of them could have imagined. Welcome back, Professor Pending.

Unforgettable Moment: Flashbacks to the procedures that created the Ant Hill mob shine some light on their...uh, unique aesthetic. A horrific cloning experiment gone awry produced every member as a sort of hive-minded entity. As if they weren’t already creepy enough.
