During today’s Raising Super Readers: Inside DC’s Middle Grade Graphic Novels panel at San Diego Comic-Con, fans were treated to drawing demonstrations, giveaways and a first look at never-before-seen artwork from upcoming titles debuting in fall 2019 and beyond.

Panelists included Art Baltazar, Franco Aureliani, Gustavo Duarte, Cara McGee, Agnes Garbowska and Gene Luen Yang.

The discussion kicked off with Baltazar and Franco delving into their lighthearted take on Clark Kent in Superman of Smallville. Artist Gustavo Duarte chimed in to give fans the inside scoop on Dear Justice League and also teased what to expect from his and author Michael Northrop’s next graphic novel, Dear Super-Villains.

Fellow panelist Cara McGee shared what it was like bringing her and Meg Cabot’s Dinah Lance to life in Black Canary: Ignite, and Agnes Garbowska showcased her fun art style for DC Super Hero Girls: Powerless.

Yang rounded out the conversation discussing Superman’s legacy and how the 1940’s Adventures of Superman radio show inspired his upcoming Superman Smashes the Klan comic book.
