First Look: The Return of Icon and Rocket

By Tim Beedle Friday, July 23rd, 2021

A new hero arrives during one of America’s darkest eras in this sneak peek at our second new Milestone series, Icon and Rocket!

A stranded alien falls to Earth, discovering that he possesses remarkable powers…and a disgust with the human race. No, this isn’t the hero you’re thinking of and this sure isn’t Metropolis.

Icon and Rocket: Season One #1 tells the story of Arnus, a lost resident of the planet Terminus who crashes on Earth in the antebellum South, witnessing firsthand the horrors of slavery. Taking on the appearance of an African-American human and lacking a way back to Terminus, Arnus turns his back on the people of his new home, deeming planet Earth as being beyond saving. Spending over a century in isolation, witnessing wars, destruction and injustice and refusing to intervene, Arnus’s life changes forever when he meets a young woman named Raquel Ervin.

Raquel helps Arnus see the good in humanity and discover the pivotal role he could play in helping humankind improve. Encouraging Arnus to become one of Earth’s most powerful superheroes, Raquel begins assisting him as his sidekick and together under the names Icon and Rocket, they fight for a better world. But here’s the question asked by this new series from writers Reginald Hudlin and Leon Chills and acclaimed artist Doug Braithwaite—who decides what’s better? When Raquel asks if there’s something they can do about the drugs in her neighborhood, the result is a complex, surprising and not-at-all straightforward sequence of events reminding us that in a complicated world, the right thing isn’t always so simple. And no good deed goes unpunished.

Icon and Rocket: Season One is the second series from the relaunched Milestone Media and issue #1 hits stores next Tuesday. But you don’t have to wait that long for your first taste. Check out our exclusive first look!
